Do you struggle sometimes to get the perfect coat of wax on your skis with a Swix wax roller?
Does your wax application look too thick or uneven?
It might not be you. Your wax roller could be the problem. Even if the wax in the pot looks fully melted, it could be that your roller is not fully up to temperature yet. You want the entire roller to be glossy on all sides, with no dry or opaque sections, (and stay that way) before using it to roll your skis.
How to Check Roller Temperature on Your Wax Roller
Whether you are using a Swix T60 Wax Machine, the Toko Wax Machine, an HWK Wax Machine from Wintersteiger, or a Snowglide Hot Box Wax Roller from Verdonk Racing the process should always be the same. Always do a quick roller spin and visual inspection before using your wax roller. As you can see in these sequential images - in the first image, the wax on the top of the roller is not melted at all. As you spin it slightly, the side looks fully melted, but once you get around to the spot that is exact opposite of the starting position, you can see the roller is opaque, bubbly and not fully melted there either. Additionally as you keep rolling, some spots just still look almost "dry". You want all sides of the roller to be shiny and glossy before using it to roll your skis.

Ambient Temperature for Wax Application
Also, using your wax roller in an unheated garage or other very cold area could affect application. Whenever possible do your wax application in an area that at least has some warmth in it (doesn’t have to be fully heated to 68+ degrees, but should not be “freezing cold”).
